About Us
Charles F. Hinton Jr. (C.F. Hinton) was born on February 18, 1919 in Dallas, Texas. As a child, C.F. Hinton had several notable hobbies. He arranged and played jazz guitar for a jazz-era, big band. He also enjoyed building model airplanes.
During his mid twenties, his model air plane hobby stimulated an interest in building homes. A short time thereafter, he launched his career in the Dallas home building business. Hinton partnered with several Dallas businessmen and he became a successful home builder.
Hinton returned from service in World War II. Many U.S. soldiers returned home to the states - ready to settle down and begin their families. The United States was at a pivotal moment in history. The "American Dream" was born and that dream was for every family to have a home. In 1948, he took a job with what was then the country's largest mortgage company. For the next two years, he leveraged his builder contacts and began to finance residential homes with FHA and GI (VA) loans.
On June 1, 1950, C.F. Hinton joined forces with an investment partner and organized the mortgage banking firm of Hinton & Locke. As an FHA approved mortgagee, the new company quickly leveraged his builder contacts in the Dallas area and offered mortgage financing to their clients.
C.F. Hinton grew up during the Great Depression and was determined to build a better life for his family. Early in his career, he quickly recognized the overwhelming need for and importance of customer service. He also understood the need and importance of family. And he knew that he could fulfill both of those objectives in his residential mortgage business.
As the 1950's progressed, Hinton's mortgage operation grew rapidly. By the early 60's, he began to diversify the company. Life insurance and commercial loan departments were started. Both of the new ventures were very successful. By 1967, C.F. Hinton's company was servicing loans for 74 institutional investors. Hinton & Locke had developed a solid name for integrity, customer service and competitive home loans. In 1967, Hinton bought out the investor who helped hm start his company and changed the name of the company to Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co.
For the next 25 years, Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. established itself as a highly respected and well regarded financial services firm. The name Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. was synonymous with mortgage financing in the southwest region of the United States. C.F. Hinton and his company earned a reputation for treating customers and employees like members of the family. Mr. Hinton retired during the early 1990's. His base of satisfied customers and clients network was impressive.
His son James Hinton, spent the majority of his early career at Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. When C.F. Hinton retired in 1992, James sold the operations of Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. to a federal savings bank. James became the Chief Mortgage Officer of that bank. Mr. Hinton retained the corporate charter, Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co., and continued to use the company for an investment vehicle during his late retirement years. Mr. Hinton passed away in 2000. Since then, the company has been operationally dormant. In June of 2008, Mr. Hinton's son James and his grandson Bryan resigned their positions with a federal savings bank. They have joined to reinstate Hinton Mortgage's past operations and to preserve the legacy that C.F. Hinton established.
For the last half century, Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. has financed thousands of home loans to satisfied customers. Past associates of Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. are in the top industry tier of professionalism and knowledge. Hinton Mortgage & Investment Co. delivered those core values for one half of the 20th century, and is committed to continue that legacy through the 21st century.
